Study Abroad Opportunities

The Department of Art and Art History encourages study abroad opportunities. Group trips for studio art and art history students are occasionally arranged for winter breaks and summer semesters. Department faculty members accompany the students on these trips, and two-credit and four-credit coursework options are available. Every Summer AAH offers a 6-week study abroad program in Volterra, Italy, where you can earn credit toward your major or general education requirements, while visiting Rome, Florence, Pisa, Siena and Venice. Informational sessions take place in mid-fall for trips in the following calendar year. Follow us on the AAH social media accounts for the most up-to-date information.

American Chemical Society (ACS)
All majors are welcome to join the OU Student Chapter of the American Chemical Society. The
organization features a wide variety of programs to meet the needs of the chemistry student,
including academic events, such as tours of local chemical and medical facilities; special speakers and research conferences; and social events such as picnics, and sporting activities. If you enjoy chemistry, no matter your major, you are welcome to attend.

(CHM 2995, CHM 4995, BCM 4995). Initiate the process by talking to faculty members about their programs. Also, a variety of sponsored summer research opportunities are available within the department. Don't wait for senior year to do this!

Research and Teaching

Work alongside faculty members in their classrooms or in research projects while gaining credit toward graduation. Gain valuable experience by assisting in an undergraduate course and discussing with supervising faculty the principles, methods, and problems of teaching. Work with full-time faculty to develop independent or co-authored research projects and present your findings at undergraduate research conferences. Initiate the process by speaking with individual faculty members.

Study Abroad Opportunities

Toronto International Film Festival
The TIFF annual program is designed to provide Oakland University students with hands-on experience at a major international film festival and market, including screenings, industry panels, and master class workshops with media professionals.

British Studies at Oxford Program
The British Studies at Oxford Program is designed to immerse students in the historical, cultural, and social milieu that has informed the ideas, events, and works studied in our courses. Contact Professor Susan Beckwith for more information.

University of East Anglia, Norwich, England
Through an Oakland University exchange, students can spend a semester abroad at the University of East Anglia, UK, which has one of the top American Studies programs in England.
